Acrylic Painting

The following paintings were produced for one of my A-Level projects. These are some of my first paintings, most of my previous artwork had been based around creating installations, producing clay work, or sketching. I decided to paint for this project as it was something new for me to try my hand that, which offered an opportunity for me to learn to focus on the fine details in my work. The starting paintings in this set were rushed in an excitement to get them done in order to start the next one. The top three paintings in the gallery below, were the most recent ones I made. For these three in particular I really tried to take my time and get things as accurate as possible to the original photos. It has been a while since I’ve done non-digital artwork, but these paintings are paintings I’m proud of, especially the top centre one. They all helped me develop an eye for detail, which has played a role in all of my work, professional or personal, afterwards. Painting was a challenge, it was something I never really tried to do during the years prior, as I was always interested in more 3D art such as sculpture or creating installations. As I hadn’t tried previously to add painting to my skill set, I always assumed it was something I could not do, but in this case, I pushed myself and this was the outcome. They’re not perfect or hyper-realistic, but they’re in a style I like and they are an example of my improvements. They now inspire me to learn new skills no matter what. This seemed like such an impossible task, but I was inspired to learn something new, which has pushed me and kept me driven to learn skills down the line, such as 3D modelling, animation, UI design and other skillsets too.
